STUDY IN COSTA RICA
According to various reports, Costa Rica is in fourth place among 94 countries with more accessible to study. These studies demonstrate that education in the country covers a whole, the rate of people who can read and write is 90.27% and illiteracy is a 9.73% equivalent to neither 334,000 people who can not read nor write. Through constant attention to education, Costa Rica has achieved the highest literacy rate in Central America, which competes with the largest and most industrialized nations of the world. Since 1970, Costa Rica has invested 28% of the national budget and this had not been achieved if the armed forces still existed.
MINISTRY OF PUBLIC EDUCATION
Is the lead throughout the educational system, which is responsible for promoting the development and consolidation of an educational system of excellence to allow access to the entire population of quality education, focusing on the development of people and the promotion of a Costa Rican society composed of the opportunities and social equity. The institutional vision of this company is characterized by an efficient administrative management, timely and transparent manner, which promotes the development of the human being and human capabilities needed to integrate and live in a global society, based on the talent, knowledge and skills. A Ministry to help to discover, understand, express and rebuilt as world citizens, able to be guided in the ongoing quest criticism and what is fair.
Among some of the many features of the Costa Rican education system, are:
Public education will be organized as an integral process correlated in its various stages, from preschool to university.
Preschool education and general is basic mandatory and free. These and diversified education in the public system are free and supported by the Nation.
In the state education, including higher public spending will be no less than six percent (6%) annual gross domestic product, according to the law.
The education of the country is divided into 3 CYCLES: The Pre-school education, primary, secondary and university.
PRESCHOOL EDUCATION
It is the initial part of the formal system of regular education. Includes at least one year and the entry age is 5 years and 6 months completed last February, with a margin of less than 5 years and 3 months fulfilled by the same date. Overall, Early Childhood Education aims to provide the foundation for the development of the child.
Institutions dealing with children who have no AGE FOR PRE-SCHOOL:
Casa Cuna:
The nurseries are institutions that tend to strengthen the bonds of motherhood and to prevent the abandonment of children, care for children and mothers who do not have resources to survive in the early years of life. Usually responds to cases of widows or single mothers.
Children's nurseries:
They are institutions dedicated to caring young children, since the first months of birth until the beginings preschool education in kindergartens. Its role is essentially in the care of children while the mothers are working outside their homes or are engaged in household tasks when the number of children not allowed to give due attention to their offspring.
Education and Nutrition Centers (CEN):
These institutions serve food, nutrition and education to children whose age ranges from about four years.
Child Care Centers (CINAI):
These institutions theoretically serve children from 0 to 6 years, although in practice there are very few children under 2.
Kindergartens:
They are the first step of formal education regular and systematic actions comprise between 3 and 6 years of age.
Community homes:
Community homes are a program of comprehensive care for children 0 to 6 years. They are based on community participation as a cornerstone on which all the action revolves. The following participating institutions: Ministry of Education, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Labor and the Joint Institute for Social Aid (IMAS).
GENERAL BASIC EDUCATION:
ELEMENTARY EDUCATION (06 to 12 years)
It ensures that the proper literacy, teaches reading, writing, arithmetic and some of the basic cultural concepts are considered essential. Its purpose is to provide all students with a common training that enables the development of individual capacities drive to balance personal relationships and social activities with the acquisition of the basic cultural learning’s on the above.
SECONDARY EDUCATION (13 to 17 years)
Is the one that aims to train students to pursue higher studies. Upon completion of secondary education is intended that students develop adequate skills, values and attitudes to achieve a good performance in society. These are the Schools academic day and night (III Cycle and Diversified Education). To enter this cycle, is required to have passed the first and second cycles. These centers serve the educational needs of students in those institutions known as High Schools, Colleges or with the fundamental purpose of providing students the basic skills necessary to enable them to interpret, understand and manage the socioeconomic and cultural development.
HOURS OF EDUCATION IN COSTA RICA
Schools and colleges in the day, the conference include the following academic periods 7:00 a.m. 11: 30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. at 16:50 p.m.
In schools and colleges night, the days are set for 6:20 pm 10:00 p.m. formed in 3 blocks and separated by breaks for 5 minutes.
School year
The institutions are subject to an academic year of nine months, which begins the first Monday in March and ends on the last Saturday of November each year. The three additional months are holidays for students, a situation that remains on the institutions of I and II cycle.
The approval of the General Basic Education is a prerequisite for gaining access to the Diversified Education
DIVERSIFIED EDUCATION
As noted, includes compulsory education until the third cycle of basic general education, so that the Diversified Education includes only the fourth cycle of the Diversified Education.
Diversified Education, as its name suggests, seeks to offer students a variety of options that are designed to meet their needs and interests in education. Specifically, the Diversified Education is divided into three main branches, namely: Academic Education, Education
Artistic and Technical Education, which in turn are subdivided into these modalities and specialties.
The Academic studies conclude with the award of Bachelor's degree, as long as the student adoption of the Baccalaureate examinations in any of the three calls per year, a title which legitimizes to enter higher education.
Academic Pathway includes only two years (tenth and eleventh).
As for the curriculum of the Academic Education Diversified, we understand the subjects of English, Social Studies, Civic Education, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Foreign Language, English or French, Art, Physical Education, Religious Education, Psychology, Philosophy and technology.
The academic conference will be from 7:00 a.m. 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. at 16:50 p.m.
